DIET or DEATH?
You may think that’s a bit dramatic, but like a lot of obese people if you don’t get your weight under control you are making this decision on a daily basis with a fork. This was me, I was almost 180LBS more than I should have been and had never really dieted for longer than a six month period of time. So one day I had to really take stock of what I was willing to do and not do and what was the likely outcome.

I figured if really I wont diet, I have two options, drugs or surgery. Drugs did not appeal to me as I am one of those wack jobs that really does believe big Pharmaceutical is out to kill you for profit. So I started to take a good hard look at surgery as a life changing solution to my situation. I looked at Gastric Bypass, Lap Band, Gastric Sleeve and the balloon.
Lap band? No really I don’t want a port in my stomach to get regular fill ups…Reminded me of that scene from Aliens, you know the one.
Bypass? No really I did not want to rearrange my entire stomachs plumbing in a way that would cause nutritional deficiency’s forever.
The Balloon? Himmm, no really don’t want to swallow a basketball and have it inflated, just to bizarre for me.
Gastric Sleeve Surgery? Yep that was the best option for me. The surgeon will reduce your stomach size by half or more and you go on with your life. Your plumbing stays the same. For me this was the best fit.
Gastric Sleeve in Mexico, the whys.
I was a self employed person at the time and did not have health insurance, even if I did, often they don’t cover barbaric surgery. I did not have 15k to have it done state side either. So after much research and against I chose to have it done in Mexico, the cost was about 5k all in.
This blog is about my adventure, good decisions, bad ones and general advice for anybody who is where I was a year ago.
